La Superficie de una Imagen (2019)
La superficie de una imagen (The Surface of an Image) is a project developed for and commissioned by CentroCentro, Madrid, in the context of a solo exhibition, curated by Soledad Gutiérrez. Looking at how certain revolutionary and resistance processes resound in the present of a society. Using archival material from different political and social movements that took place during the Spanish Civil War, the artist presents a site-specific installation that features objects/sculptures, graphic prints, moving images and sound that explore the potential for transformation of photographic material and the different layers that construct, or deconstruct, an image.

Zito Lema takes historic images and transforms them into a work surface by bringing them into contact with the body. The images thus become one of the multiple layers that are intertwined in a process in which performance also becomes a tool with which to carry out a collective investigation into memory and to understand how history is passed from one generation to another.
